Peaky Blinders: Cillian Murphy thinks fans are 'crazy' for liking his trademark hair

It may be one of the highlights of the show, but Peak Blinders star Cillian Murphy has admitted he is no fan of his trademark haircut.

The actor, who has starred as main protagonist Tommy Shelby since 2013, normally sports longer, floppier hair, but for the Black Country based hit TV show he has a textured top with shaved sides. Despite the hair being immensely popular among fans with many asking for a 'peaky cut' when they go to their barber, Murphy thinks it is 'crazy' people like the style.

The Irish actor told Shortlist Magazine: "People like the undercut thing; people go to the barber and ask for a 'peaky cut'.

"It's crazy that people like it, it's not grown on me in four years now. I normally keep my hair long."

The 41-year-old added the style was initially introduced to stop the spread of hair lice.

"But they do realise the people in turtlenecks in Hackney with this haircut, do they realise it was styled this way to prevent lice? Tell em they have got the lice cut, see what they say then," he said.

Filming for season four of Peaky Blinders finished this month with Murphy claiming in a separate interview that this series will be the 'best yet'.

No date has been set yet for the series, but it is believed it could be around October this year.

Murphy was speaking to various media outlets as he stars in Christopher Nolan's war thriller Dunkirk, which is due to be released this Friday.

Despite being one of the main stars, alongside his Peaky Blinders colleague Tom Hardy, Murphy admits he will only watch the film once.

He said: "I'll see it once. I don't know anyone who pores over their work because the impulse is always the next - the next piece I do will be the best piece I do. To an actor, nostalgia is death.

"When you look at your work from 10 years ago and think that was the apotheosis, well, you're f***** really. It's got to be forward thinking."
