Shifnal Half Marathon raises charity funds - in photos
Hundreds of runners descended on a Shropshire town for the return of a half-marathon.
About 185 athletes took part in the Shifnal Half Marathon, with one runner travelling all the way from India to take part.
The race covered a mix of terrain through Shifnal and the neighbouring towns of Ryton, Beckbury and Kemberton before finishing at Idsall School.
The race is organised with the support of the Shifnal community and pupils and staff from Idsall School who volunteer to marshal the route and man the water stations.
All surplus funds are donated to charities, which have included Hope House, Teenage Cancer Trust, West Mercia Search and Rescue, with the main beneficiary being Bloodwise – a cause close to the heart of race organiser, Gareth Morgan.
Mr Morgan said: "The event went very well. It was perfect weather – not too warm and some showers to cool the runners down.
"We had 185 entries this year, which was great.
"The event was supported by pupils, teachers, retired teachers and teaching assistants from Idsall School. They are a brilliant help.
"We also had some great support from villages we passed through on the race."
Runners of all abilities took part, ranging from international athletes, including Martin Williams of Tipton Harriers who won the race in one hour 14 minutes 31 seconds.
Second place was taken by Paul Hammond, also of Tipton Harriers, who recorded a time of one hour 16 minutes 18 seconds. He was closely followed by Christian Evans of Telford Athletic Club who finished in one hour 16 minutes and 35 seconds.
The first woman back was Rachel Sims from Telford AC with a time of one hour 44 minutes and 15 seconds.
The prize fund of £300 was spread out between the winners and trophies were given out.
