Hundreds gather to walk on for Compton Hospice - in photos
Hundreds of people whose friends and family have been cared for by staff at Compton Hospice took to West Park to thank the charity for its work.
The annual five mile sponsored Memory Walk was tackled by 350 people across all ages in order to pay tribute to lost loved ones and thank care staff for their work.
This year marked the 23rd instalment of the event, which is one of the biggest fundraising drives in Compton Hospice's calendar.
Grace Lee, marketing manager at Compton Hospice, said: "The Memory Walk is a really nice way for people to remember those they have lost over the years and to help us out.
"We ask that people try and collect some sponsorship money if possible and this all goes towards running costs.
"We organise a lot of fundraising events throughout the year but this one really has caught on and we look forward to it every time.
"I would like to thank everyone who has taken part."
It is hoped that around £12,000 will be raised when all of the money is counted over the coming weeks.
Compton Hospice has been providing care and support to patients living with incurable illnesses, and their families for more than 30 years.
Supporting over 1800 people every year across Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, Sandwell, South Staffordshire and East Shropshire, the charity delivers care in a variety of settings including in people’s own homes as well as in dedicated hospice buildings.
The winner of the Memor Walk was Mimzy Khatkar, 34, from the Park ward area of Wolverhampton.
He said: "I ran today for my aunty, Amarjit Kaur, who was cared for at Compton Hospice over the last few weeks of her life last summer.
"The staff are excellent, they put so much emphasis on making people happy and comfortable and this is my way of saying back.
"I have brought along some of my family with me today because we all wanted to show our support.
"We also took part last year."
