RAF Cosford Air Show 2017: Talks to discuss event being held over two days
Talks are to be held to decide whether the annual Cosford Air Show will become a two-day event.
Organisers are waiting until after this year’s show to pose the idea to senior officers.
Wing Commander Chris Jones, who was the chairman of this year’s Cosford Air Show, said earlier this year that it was an aspiration for the future.
Squadron Leader Chris Wilson, RAF Cosford’s official spokesman, said: “That really is an aspiration with no firm plans to do it in the future.
“The senior officers will make those decisions, but talks will take place about the possibility of doing it.”
Although anything is yet to be decided, Squadron Leader Wilson said the logistics of putting on a two-day event would not be a lot more difficult than it currently is.
“It would impact on people a little bit more, for example if we have the flying displays over two days there would be more noise.
“But, in theory, we would just have to get ready for the Saturday instead.
“If we were to go to two days the logistics wouldn’t be too much more difficult.”
He said a lot of organisation has gone into the planning for this year’s event.
“The planning for an air show begins as soon as the last one finishes,” he said.
“I probably went to my first meeting about this year’s air show last September. Everyone gets involved.
“They are always interesting to put together.
“In the end, it’s the pride in being able to open our gates and let people see what we are doing in Cosford.”
He said a highlight of this year’s event was that the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) hangar, which was a focal point of the show, will also become a permanent feature at RAF Cosford.
Members of the public were able to get hands-on experience of state-of-the-art military technologies and learn more about exciting education and career opportunities.
