Vintage Trouble, Wolverhampton Slade Rooms - review
As part of their UK tour, Hollywood rhythm and blues band Vintage Trouble took to the stage at Wolverhampton’s Slade Rooms last night.
Opening the show was the British Blues Awards ‘Young Artist of the Year 2014’ winner Laurence Jones, who along with his two piece band put on a great energetic set to warm the sold out Slade Rooms up.
As Vintage Trouble took to the stage, for what could be considered an intimate show considering the scale of their 2000 capacity London show in a few days, the energy erupting from the stage was something to be behold. And this didn’t let up for a second.
Lead vocalist Ty Taylor was like a lightning bolt, not only across the stage but across the whole venue, crowd surfing and finding himself at the rear of the venue during a storming performing ‘Run like the River’. There wasn’t a track in which the audience wasn’t involved in some way, aided by the charismatic performances from all band members. Tracks such as ‘Total Strangers’ and ‘Strike Your Light’ had the audience jiving and moving, whilst the evening was also a chance for the band to present new tracks from the groups upcoming fourth record.
Returning to the stage to a rapturous applause, the band picked the energy back up to a fever pitch with ‘Blues Hand Me Down’ before ending with ‘Nobody Told Me’.
As what at first appears a novelty merchandise idea, the band sell cardboard fans that are adorned with the bands branding. Upon entering the venue you may feel that £5 is a steep price for a piece of cardboard on a stick; however by the end with the room like a sauna you would happily pay £10.
The energy and passion in the room from both the band and their ‘Troublemakers’ is something to behold, and upon leaving the venue you can’t help feeling that it might be a while before they’re topped as a live outfit.
