English wine to be celebrated at Wolverhampton vineyard event
A popular vineyard is holding a special celebration of All Things English as part of a national wine event.
Halfpenny Green Wine Estate, based in Bobbington, close to Wolverhampton, will be taking part in English Wine Week, organised by the English Wine Producers association.
The events will run from Saturday May 27 until Sunday June4 as part of the annual festivities to celebrate wine made in England, by English producers.
The week will feature mini tours, tastings and special offers on the range of wines produced entirely on-site at the estate.
The period will be capped by the Wine Estate’s annual Food & Wine Festival, held this year on Saturday June 10.
The day will encompass free sampling of a range of the food, drink and produce sold in the Wine Estate’s on-site shop, including the Estate’s own range of 14 wines, plus more than 50 artisan British gins stocked in the shop’s Wine Loft.
Recent years have seen Halfpenny Green sell their wines to nationally recognised retailers Marks and Spencer and Waitrose, as English wine is enjoyed more and more by the general public both at home and abroad.
“The Food & Wine Festival seemed like a natural progression for us here,” said managing director Clive Vickers.
“Each year more and more people visit our site for tours and wine tastings having never tried English Wines before - they always leave thoroughly impressed! English Wine Week and the Food and Wine Festival give the public a great chance to see why English Wine is winning so many awards in international competitions.”
Halfpenny Green’s wines have won a range of medals at international competitions in recent years, including a Bronze at the IWC Awards for their ‘Tom Hill 2015’, as well as Silvers for both their ‘Late Harvest 2014’ and ‘Pinot Chardonnay 2011’. Their Rondo 2014, a 15 per cent full bodied red, picked up a Bronze award at last year’s Decanter World Wine Awards.
