Singer and dancer Sophie-Rose Dickinson, aged 18 and from Willenhall, is hoping to be crowned Miss Birmingham at the final

Sophie-Rose Dickinson, aged 18 from Willenhall, will be up against 33 finalists in the final on Sunday.

She said: "I hope to win the contest so I can inspire younger children."

Sophie finished fourth place in Miss Black Country this year but hopes to go one better in the final of Britain's second city.

The winner will then be put forward to compete in Miss England.

The beauty pageant requires contestants to raise money for charity Beauty With A Purpose.

Sophie has chosen to use her passion for singing to raise money for cause.

She has recorded a cover song, called 'I'm Here' from the musical 'The Colour Purple', which she will sell on CDs.

The contest also requires contestants to make dresses from recycled material.

Sophie has used a black dress and fixed paper music sheets and broken CDs onto the dress to tie in with her singing interest.

She has this year graduated from Birmingham Ormiston Academy - a regional academy for digital, creative and performing arts - with a triple distinction in a performing arts diploma.

Sophie will start a degree in musical theatre at Wolverhampton University in September.

Looking ahead to the final, which is being held at Burlington Arcade, Sophie said: "I am really exciting and looking forward to it.

"I enjoyed taking part in Miss Black Country where I met some lovely girls. Competing in Miss Birmingham shows I won't give up.

"If I win and get through to Miss England, there is a talent round at that stage where I will be able to showcase my singing."

Voting is currently open for Miss Birmingham and the public can still cast their favourite choice before voting closing at 8pm on the day of the final.

Sophie added: "I have had loads of support. My mum helped me make my dress. My family and friends have been voting for me."

Mr Birmingham will also be announced at the finals.
