Fossil first on show at Perton Library festival

The free community festival, organised by Wild About Perton and supported by Staffordshire Library Service with South Staffordshire Council, aims to engage local people in what’s best about in their local environment.

It will take place on May 20 at Perton Library and the surrounding green area.

New to the Festival in 2017 are the Black Country’s amazing fossils and minerals brought to you by the Lapworth Museum of Geology and Wolverhampton Art Gallery with the Black Country Geopark.

And, then there are favourites from previous years, passionate about animals, plants and their local environment:

Organiser, Keith Elder said: ‘Wild About Perton is delighted to welcome back dinosaurs to Perton after a 57 million year absence.

"In additions to dinosaur and other fossils.

"There will be lots to do and see, with 23 environmental and wildlife organisations, inside Perton Library and outside on the neighbouring green space.

"Entry is free and fun is guaranteed."

Gill Heath, libraries chief at Staffordshire County Council said: “What a fantastic example of People helping People in their local community with the support of Perton Library.

"This wonderful family event is a highlight of the local calendar.

"Not only does it bring the local community together for a day of celebrations and learning it also gives us a great opportunity to get people into the library to find out about the different activities going on there. "Last year over 1,500 visitors took part in festivities at the library and all the new exhibitors this year are sure to draw a big crowd again.”
