Mock The Week panellist among star comics at successful Sandwell show
It was laughs-a-plenty at a new Black Country entertainment venue as a touring comedy club left crowds in stitches.
The Can Comedy Club hosted its latest gig at the former landmark Wednesbury Conservative Club – now known as Churchill's Bar and Restaurant.
BBC Mock The Week panellist Nathan Caton was joined by fellow comics Andy Robinson, Masai Graham from West Bromwich and star of Sky One's Trollied, Cerys Nelmes, who took turns in performing on stage.
Organisers from Can Comedy said they were 'overwhelmed' by how well the show went.
Andrew Nightingale, aged 34 from Wednesbury, who runs the company with his brother Paul, 29, said: "The gig was really good.
"We expected 40 to 50 people to turn up but the room was filled.
"Loads of people turned up and I think the total number was about 90," he added.
The night was rounded off by Nathan who left the audience in stitches after landing a well-delivered joke, said Andrew.
"We started off around 8.30pm and finished of just after 11," he said.
"Nathan did a half hour performance at the end to close the gig.
"The audience was in stitches.
"I think he was hoping he could land his punch line, and once he delivered it the audience loved it."
It comes as the venue was transformed following the closure of Wednesbury Conservative and Unionist Club in January last year after more than 140 years.
Andy, who is a father-of-two and is a computer science teacher at South Wolverhampton and Bilston Academy, has been running Can Comedy Club for the last five years along with his brother.
Although they both have taken to the stage as stand-up comedians themselves, they have enjoyed the management side of running the club.
The show at the Walsall Street venue on Saturday was the latest event run by Can Comedy in Wednesbury.
On April 1, they held a gig at The Lamp Restaurant, which was headlined by Joe Lycett, and they sold out all of their tickets.
The next show taking place at Churchill's will be on June 10. Tickets can be bought for £10.45 by visiting www.wegottickets.com and searching for 'Can Comedy @ Churchills'.
Andrew said it was great to be able to bring high-profile comic acts to Wednesbury, saving people who live there or nearby having to travel to venues in the likes of Wolverhampton, Birmingham or even further away.
