Three galleries at Wolverhampton Art Gallery have been filled with the creations of author and Lego artist, Warren Elsmore.

He has used thousands of pieces of the much-loved plastic bricks to create more than 70 awe-inspiring models.

The exhibition opened on Friday, and on Saturday the Lichfield Street venue hosted a day of family workshops called the Brick Wonders of Wolverhampton.

Visitors were able to create their own iconic Wolverhampton buildings or dress up as Lego characters.

Matthew Handley and Keeley Fellows, both aged seven and from Cheslyn Hay, could not resist donning the Batman and Batwoman outfits and taking a stroll around the galleries.

Councillor John Reynolds, Wolverhampton council's Cabinet Member for City Economy, said: "Lego is the staple toy of childhood and it doesn't matter how old or young you are, you can be as creative as you like with it.

"This exhibition proves just how far you can go with a bit of imagination and a lot of Lego. I'm sure it is going to be a very popular show."

Under the theme of natural, ancient and modern, Mr Elsmore has recreated everything from the Great Wall of China to Niagra Falls and the Great Pyramid of Giza.

There is even a modern surgical operating theatre, container ships and an airport – all created using Lego bricks.

Tickets for the exhibition cost £4 for adults and £2 for children, or £10 for a family of four.

It runs until July 4. Visit www.wolverhamp tonart.org.uk for more information and to buy tickets.
