Meerkats given Easter treat
Even meerkats get Easter eggs at the West Midland Safari Park.
Keepers hide food in empty ostrich eggs, fill papier-mache eggs with treats such as meal worms and decorate hard boiled chicken eggs and hide them in the enclosure.
Beth Cheshire, African village keeper, said: "Meerkats love eggs so Easter is probably their favourite time of the year. In the wild they will climb up to bird's nests to steal and eat the eggs, so will go to great lengths to find the treats we hide.
The zoo has a host of events planned for Easter running from next weekend to the end of the month. The Easter Egg-stravaganza includes an Egg-splorer's Trail, a craft club and themed shows, encounters and competitions.
Schools and youth groups have also entered an egg decoration competition.
