Plans for this year's Staffordshire Day have been unveiled – with a music festival and vintage market among the programme of events lined up for the May celebration.

Leisure chiefs have confirmed a host of events for May 1 – the second county-wide celebration.

The popular day, which attracted thousands of visitors to attractions across the county last year, will include events, competitions and special offers.

Enjoy Staffordshire, which has organised Staffordshire Day along with the county council, is looking to improve on the number of events last year.

Last year's line-up included a light show at Lichfield's Guild Hall, a day at the lake at Rudyard Lake in the Moorlands and an open day at Gladstone Pottery Museum in Stoke.

Events already confirmed this year include a vintage market at the National Memorial Arboretum, a music festival in Newcastle-under-Lyme and the Norbury Canal Festival near Stafford, which will feature live music, a market and a beer festival.

On top of the events organised, Enjoy Staffordshire is hoping people will once again be hosting their own events to celebrate the county and its achievements. Last year, for example, Spark Children's Centre in Burntwood hosted arts and craft workshops.

Residents are also being urged to check in on Enjoy Staffordshire's Facebook page where they will be hosting competitions to win items such as tickets, meals and hotel stays. Mark Winnington, a cabinet member for Staffordshire County Council and the vice-chairman of destination Staffordshire, said: "Last year's first ever Staffordshire Day was a huge success and this year we hope to make the day even bigger and better.

"We all know what a wonderful county Staffordshire is to live and work in but like last year, the day gives us the chance to shout this from the roof tops.

"Thousands of people turned out for last year's celebrations and many businesses got involved making available some great offers.

"This year I want even more people to get involved and have a great day so get the date – Monday May 1 – in your diary and stay posted for some wonderful events."
