The nine Gentoo penguins have travelled from Denmark to The National Sea Life Centre, in Birmingham.

There are six male and three female penguins in the group. They will join the centre's existing colony as part of the Breed, Rescue, Protect programme.

Chris Coventry, of the centre, said: "We couldn't wait to welcome the arrivals.

"They are such fascinating sea creatures and we look forward to seeing their personalities come to light."
