Sir Lenny Henry made chancellor of Birmingham City University
Dudley's Sir Lenny Henry has been made chancellor of Birmingham City University and it looks like he couldn't be more thrilled with his new role.
The comedian and actor will formally accept his post this evening at Birmingham Town Hall in front of about 300 people, where he'll don ceremonial robes and talk about the transformative impact of education.
Sir Lenny, who's known for his charitable work leading Comic Relief, made visits to the university's campus earlier in the year where he saw for himself how students are given a first foot into the world of the creative arts.
His inauguration ceremony will include performances from jazz tutor Percy Pursglove, who has composed a fanfare, and composition teacher Errollyn Wallen, who will debut Lenny's Song.
Guests will also see a specially-commissioned short film titled Transformation featuring Sir Lenny.
He will stay as chancellor for five years, a ceremonial figurehead role which will see him act as an ambassador to raise the university's profile locally, nationally and internationally.
