Stafford's former Post House bar to reopen

A Stafford bar will reopen as a drinking spot that bosses say wouldn't look out of place in London.

The former Post House in Stafford will be welcoming punters again from Friday, December 9, under its new name The Apothecary.

The Greengate Street bar has been taken on by the West Midlands Pub Company.

Group manager Mark Bodley said: "We got the keys on November 1 and closed it temporarily while we are refurbishing. Downstairs will be a restaurant and gastro-bar as it was before but with the addition of the all-day food element. It will be open between noon and 10pm.

"Upstairs will be a cocktail lounge very much in the vein of what you would expect in Birmingham, London or Manchester. We will be bringing a real wow factor and sense of theatre to that which we are really excited about."

The building was built in the early 1700s and named after its first owner William Chetwynd, Third Viscount Chetwynd.

Between 1914 and 2007 it served as the town's general post office before reopening as a bar and restaurant in 2011. It has changed hands a couple of times already this year, which saw it temporarily closed in July only to open again the following month.
