Bilston Operatic Company's production kicked off on Tuesday night - and is wowing audiences.

Featuring the music of Madness, Our House, which runs at the Grand for five days, combines a witty romance with the energetic songs of the ska band.

Laura Canadine, the show's producer and choreographer, praised the audience and cast alike for a superb opening night.

She said: "It was a really good - everyone enjoyed themselves.

"There were a few nerves before the show - mostly from me.

"But the audiences reaction was great, they laughed and clapped in all the right places and were very responsive."

The theatre company has returned to the Grand following the success of last year's production of Hairspray.

With a smaller cast than last year's production, Laura admitted this year's show has been a challenge.

Laura added: "Some of our youngsters have gone to drama school, so we have lost a few and this years production has been more challenging as it's a very fast paced show.

"But the cast of Our House have been a pleasure to rehearse with for the past six months.

"They inspire me with their determination and hard work and we're all looking forward to what will be a great week back at the Grand."

The production follows Joe Casey who, on his 16th birthday, takes Sarah, the girl of his dreams, out on their first date.

In an effort to impress her with bravado, he breaks into a building site overlooking his home on Casey Street.

The police turn up at which point Joe's life splits into two – Good Joe, who stays to help, and Bad Joe, who flees.

Scott Bird, press manager for the Grand Theatre, said: "It's a pleasure to have Bilston Operatic Company back at the Grand Theatre.

"The company have talented members of all ages who have assembled a lively, energetic show, but it's particularly inspiring to see teenage leads at the forefront – they're doing a terrific job."

Tickets for Our House are on sale from the Box Office, by calling 01902 42 92 12 or online at grandtheatre.co.uk.
