Roald Dahl's The Witches to be staged in Dudley
A Black Country theatre group is putting on a performance of a Roald Dahl classic next month.
Dudley Little Theatre, which will be celebrating its 70th birthday next year, is performing The Witches.
The group will be performing between December 8 and December 11.
The Witches, which was first published in 1983, tells the story of a young boy and his Norwegian grandmother in a world where child-hating evil witches secretly exist.
The book, published by Jonathan Cape, was illustrated by Quentin Blake.
Taking place at Netherton Arts Centre, the first performance from the theatre group will be at 7.30pm on December 8.
Chris Ridgeway, Dudley Little Theatre's publicity officer, said: "We chose the play because of it being the Roald Dahl centenary year and of course a very popular book."
"We do not do pantos but we do include music and this show will have some interesting music written by one of our members.
"The play is well under way now with rehearsals taking place three times a week."
The group has invited schools to take part in a competition to design an outfit for a Roald Dahl witch that will be made up and worn by one of the witches in the production.
The winner will appear on stage for the curtain call at the performance attended. All entries will be on display at Netherton Arts Centre during the play.
Evening performances take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm, doors open at 7pm, and matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 2.30pm, doors open at 2 pm.
