Sean Lock, Birmingham Hippodrome - review
Perhaps better known for being a star on panel shows such as 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Sean Lock's new show Keep It Light sees him touring around the UK and last night found him at Birmingham Hippodrome.
After a short support set from Paul Mccaffery, star of BBC3's Impractical Jokers, Sean Lock immediately took to the sold out room to applauses of adoration.
Combating a variety of topics throughout the evening such as reaching middle age, a newfound appreciation for ballet and even his secret love affair with Mumsnet prove hilarious tales.
Lock's delivery is much more animated on stage than you would perhaps expect, making the most of the vast space by jumping and dancing around.
There are also some very abstract sections within the second half such as Lock's tales of how he had written three new children's books and old games that he used to play as a child of which one included guessing what road kill his father had found that evening by feeling the vertebrate of said animal on his head.
In terms of reception, the evening ebbed and flowed with regards to the amount of laughter Lock received however it could be said that the first half contained much stronger material than the latter.
Leaving the stage just after 10.30pm following an encore based around cinema food prices, the evening seemed great value for money with Lock's show lasting for two hours.
Though perhaps both the delivery and content were not as to be expected from the 'cynical' Sean Lock, it's an entertaining show that leaves a smile on your face throughout even if it's not a laugh a minute.
