The front-woman with Morcheeba formed her career-defining band in 1994 with the Godfrey brothers – Paul and Ross – and enjoyed hits with Who Can You Trust, Big Calm, Fragments Of Freedom and Charango.

She will headline Birmingham University's Bramall Hall on Sunday as part of her new duo Skye I Ross, which features Ross Godfrey. Fans can look forward to a signature mix of influences from trip hop and blues to soul.

She said she had enjoyed working with Ross, adding: "Well, it's obviously familiar because it is with Ross and we've been getting on for 20 years now. I guess we can't include the seven-year break, so I didn't know him in that time.

"But we've been working together on and off since 1994. We wrote in a similar way by e-mailing, which is how we did Blood Like Lemonade and Head Up High albums. The differences were that he was producing this record.

"Having said that, he did sort of co-produce the Morcheeba records as well, but it felt like Paul was more in the driving seat for Head Up High, at least.

"I also wrote lyrics for this Skye I Ross album, while on the Morcheeba records, Paul wrote the lyrics and I did melodies."
