Code Bravo! Snap proves to be Top Gun at RAF Cosford

It looks like something out of an epic Hollywood blockbuster, but this incredible image was snapped a little closer to home, at RAF Cosford.

The photograph shows a Sepecat Jaguar GR1 snapped at RAF Cosford by Aircraft Technician Michael Pope.

The image was taken as part of a Jaguar Day/Night Shoot charity event held at the base on Thursday night. The aim of the event was to enable amateur photographers to visit Cosford from 4pm and into the evening to take their own pictures. So far, it is estimated that the event raised around £4,000 for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. Photographer Michael Pope said: "I was working the event, looking after the aircraft in the hangar and I just spotted what I thought would be a good shot. I'm a bit of an amateur photographer so I had brought my camera and tripod with me.

"It only took me a couple of seconds to set up the tripod and take the snap. The smoke machines had been set up as part of the event, so that explains the smoky backdrop behind the plane." Once Mr Pope returned home, he processed the image, changing the white balance in the picture to give it its distinctive sepia tone. Squadron Leader Chris Wilson said: "Michael's image is fantastic. I think the members of staff involved in the event were really thrilled to see the aircrafts that they usually work with from a different perspective and Michael has really managed to capture the Sepecat in a totally unique light."

The Sepecat Jaguar GR1 is an Anglo-French jet attack aircraft that was originally used by the British Royal Air Force and the French Air Force. It was primarily used in close air support and in a nuclear strike role. It was taken out of service in 2007, but is still in service with the Indian Air Force.
