The Great Birmingham Run half marathon took place alongside a Junior and Mini Great Birmingham Run.

The race, which was aired on Channel 5, followed a route which passed the Bullring, Cadbury World in Bournville and Edgbaston cricket ground.

It was won by Andy Vernon with a time of 1 hour, 3 min. The first woman to cross the finish line was Elizeba Cherono, at 1 hour, 13 min.

But the event was not just about the winners, with thousands taking part after months of training.

Among those competing was a man with a fridge freezer on his back and a couple who proposed just before the finishing line.

Presenter and fitness author Nell McAndrew also took part in the half marathon.

Entries are now open for the inaugural Birmingham International Marathon which takes place alongside the half-marathon on October 15 next year.
