Spandau Ballet's Tony Hadley to play Birmingham

The hits of Spandau Ballet will be heard as never before when the band's singer and frontman Tony Hadley plays Birmingham's Symphony Hall tomorrow.

Hadley is playing a small tour before releasing his first ever Christmas album, which was made in Italy and features two brand new songs together with some of his favourite Christmas classics.

Hadley plays occasionally on the 80s circuit, though prefers his solo shows.

"It's a bit of a weird one," he says. "I'm not mad on the 80s. It was when I was born if you like in terms of musicality, but back in the day they didn't have festivals like they do now.

"It does mean though I always get to catch up with people I know. I see Midge Ure quite a lot. We were both involved with the soundtrack for the Eddie the Eagle film so we've all been seeing a lot of each other. The film is fantastic - and the album is cool as well. I also know Bananarama; they just crack me up."

Hadley introduced himself to a new audience by featuring on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

He adds: "Since I've come out of the jungle, a whole bunch of 18-to-19-year-olds now know who I am. Gold is sung in a lot of college bars. It's become a bit of an anthem."

However, Hadley is sure there won't be another Spandau reunion. "We're done. There's absolutely no vision for the future of the band. I think they wanted to continue as a band as a permanent thing. I don't suppose I'm flavour of the month.

"You have to be well up for it and we did have a great time and we did a couple of tours, but I've got too much going on in my own world.

"It was good fun. Even though we were on good terms again, it was never going to be the same. When you're 16-year-olds you want to take over the world, then when you're a slightly maturer 55-year-old, it's never going to be quite the same."
