Wildlife researcher Jochen Langbein got his video camera out at Chasewater on Tuesday.

The 57-year-old wildlife consultant, from Somerset, had been working with Staffordshire County Council on a project to prevent road accidents involving deer. But Mr Langbein, who is also an aspiring filmmaker, was stunned at what he saw.

He told the Express & Star: "It was just a Tuesday evening and I had been working with the council during the day and then I had a couple of hours to kill. So I went to have a look with my camera.

"I managed to do a very unusual bit of photography and video. I have worked on deer for 30 years and I don't think I have seen them chase through the water like that."

Mr Langbein uploaded footage of the deer hopping through the water to his Facebook page 'Langbein Wildlife' and in less than 24 hours the video was viewed more than 7,000 times. He added: "The stags were chasing hinds around to keep the group together."

Mr Langbein also runs a blog about deer behaviour, conservation and energy which can be found here
