Bridgnorth's Chamber of Commerce is keen to promote the town and get as many shops and cafes involved in late night shopping in the run up to Christmas as possible.

The plans include shops open until 8pm, a publicity campaign to promote Bridgnorth and restaurants and cafes offering discounts on the night.

Stephen Robbins, chairman of the chamber, said: "Many of our members have expressed an interest in an organised late night Christmas shopping campaign on the run-up to the big day.

"Many of the towns around the area already operate late nights towards Christmas, and we believe there is a real appetite for this from shoppers. The chamber of commerce is therefore keen to promote Bridgnorth as a great place to come and buy those Christmas gifts you just can't buy in many other towns."

Mr Robbins said the chamber is proposing that shops, cafes and restaurants stay open until 8pm every Thursday in December on the run-up to Christmas.

The chamber is planning a publicity campaign as well as targeted advertising in surrounding towns on social media. It is also looking to local pubs and restaurants to offer discounts on meals on the evenings in question, to further attract more visitors and shoppers.

Mr Robbins said: "We will be working with other local groups to maximise the shopping experience and really make these evenings something special.

"In addition, we will have our Eat, Drink and Shop local campaign running again, where we will display banners around the local area, supplemented with shop window posters as well as a social media campaign."

The Eat, Drink and Shop campaign will begin from November onwards.
