Birmingham's hottest event – the annual Chilli Festival – will be taking place in Central Square this weekend.

It will start at 11am on Saturday, with the chilli eating competition beginning at 3pm. Around 20 contestants battle it out to see who can eat the hottest chilli, to be crowned the 2016 Chilli King or Queen.

In addition to the chilli eating competition, there will be plenty going on for those with milder taste buds, with a chilli themed food and drink market, live music and street entertainment.

Raising temperatures in the bandstand, West Midlands Fire Service and Midlands Air Ambulance Charity will be at Brindleyplace with an endurance-testing Hamster Wheel Challenge.

From 5pm on Friday, 50 firefighters and paramedics will each run for one hour in full kit on a wheel in aid of Birmingham-based blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia, in addition to MAAC and the Firefighters Charity.
