Published

Thousands of people flocked to the 31st Black Country Boating Festival over the weekend to enjoy boats, ales and live entertainment.

The event along the Dudley Number Two canal line, in Netherton, saw more than 80 boats take part.

Charities and traders held stalls at the event as real ales, ciders and live music were on offer. Festival director Paddy Grice said: "It was an excellent weekend. Around 3,000 to 4,000 came on Saturday, which saw some rain, and then 5,000 to 7,000 people on the Sunday.

"We had over 80 narrow boats there, ranging from narrow boats, to leisure and working. We were joined by boaters who have attended the festival since it first started. We also had 100 charity, community and trade stalls take part."

The boaters, who have attended every event, are Jon and Maggie Jones, Ivor and Marion Chambers, Alan Moore and David and Gill Wheeler.

A classic car show, dog show and fun fair also took place. Canoes and kayaks were on show too.
