The technology hopes to encourage people to spend more time at Bridgnorth Town Hall and "bring it into the 21st century".

The audio-visual display would be triggered when people walked past, and could give information about the hall's historic uses.

Members of Bridgnorth Town Council heard it could feature cases or trials presented at the building and could cost somewhere between £3,500 and £10,000. Locum town clerk Diane Malley told a meeting of Bridgnorth's administration and general purposes committee that it might also prompt school involvement.

She said: "The town hall curator has put together a report in regards to having an interactive audio-visual display to encourage people to come into the town hall and stay to make the whole visit more enjoyable.

"She says there are a number of benefits, first the installation will provide us with publicity and will push the town into the 21st century.

"If successful, the project could be extended to further areas in Bridgnorth." Councillors were told the display could use a case or trial that was previously presented in the town hall – possibly the public inquiry of Mr Head in 1860. The case surrounded a boy who was killed and another seriously injured when Mr Head fired off his collection of canons in the castle grounds.

The static installation would be triggered through touch or motion, to allow the public to engage with it while passing through.

Councillor Connie Baines suggested the council saw a presentation on the advantages of the display before making any kind of decision, while Councillor Ron Whittle questioned if it was the kind of item the council wanted to spend money on.
