The replica of the magical car has been hand-crafted from pure chocolate and took choclatiers two days to make.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, based on the 1968 film version of Ian Fleming's book, launched at Birmingham Hippodrome this week. The show runs until September 18.

The car is made from a combination of milk and white chocolate and has been finished with gold, silver and red pearl lustre.

It also features a chocolate cloud underneath to show it as flying through the sky; and intricate details to show the realistic appearance of the car body. The total creation weighs an impressive 20kg.

It is on display in Birmingham Hippodrome's foyer throughout the duration of the musical.

Kate Evans, communications executive at Birmingham Hippodrome, said: "When it comes to theatrical props with flair, they don't come much more iconic than the legendary Chitty.

"We can't wait for families visiting the theatre over the next two weeks to catch a glimpse of our chocolate Chitty close up!"

The cast also features Phill Jupitus – who takes on the role of Lord Scrumptious and Baron Bomburst, and Carrie Hope Fletcher as Truly Scrumptious.
