V Festival: Warning to drivers as last of the fans head home

Motorists were being warned to avoid the area around Weston Park this morning as the V Festival drew to a close.

South Staffordshire Police warned of increased traffic on the A5 and the A41 near Weston-under-Lizard as the last of the revellers headed home following the weekend festivities.

Drivers were also warned to expect delays into "mid-morning" today on the M6 close to its junction with the M54.

It was closed yesterday after a man died following a crash between a lorry, car and van on the northbound section of the motorway near Walsall at around 3pm yesterday.

The motorway reopened in the early hours but Highways England officials advised drivers that delays could remain into mid-morning.

One lane is closed while repairs continue.

Another man involved in the crash was described as walking wounded and has been treated for his injuries.

The region's biggest music event of the year saw rain, sunshine and music as thousands of people descended on Weston Park for the 21st annual V Festival.

It kicked off on Saturday with headliner Rihanna stealing the show after performances from the like of All Saints, Jake Bugg, Little Mix and Travis.

Last night saw Canadian singer Justin Bieber take to the stage after performing at the Chelmsford leg of the festival the night before.

West Midlands Ambulance said 1,218 people were treated, with 40 sent to hospital. Staffordshire Police said numerous arrests were made in relation to drugs, including recently outlawed legal highs.
