James Houlton, aged 22, who works at Our Plaice in Comberton Hill, has been shortlisted in the 2017 National Fish & Chip Awards by Seafish.

He began working at the shop when he was 13, a co-worker said.

James, from Hagley, will go up against nine other contenders for the coveted Drywite Young Fish Fryer of the Year title in the awards – which are considered the 'Oscars' of the fish frying industry.

The national winner will be announced after the list of nominees has been whittled down to five, on January 26 at the National Fish & Chip Awards annual ceremony in London.
