Police have said if any of the flying machines are spotted at the grounds on the Shropshire-Staffordshire border they will be seized and the owners prosecuted.

The move is part of efforts to urge music fans to look after their belongings and personal safety at the popular show.

Revellers are also being advised to follow simple crime prevention measures to stay safe and avoid opportunist thieves.

Uniformed and plain-clothed officers will work with stewards and monitor CCTV to deal with any suspicious activity. Automatic Number Plate Recognition will also be used to target any offenders spotted.

Supt Elliott Sharrard-Williams, lead event commander of Staffordshire Police, said: "We are used to looking after thousands of people who come to V Festival but it's important for everyone to do their bit in protecting their property.

"We would encourage people to travel light and not to bring valuable items with them." Visitors are also advised not to carry expensive jewellery, watches or computer-based devices.

Expensive mobile phones should be left at home and the sim card put in an old phone. Cash should also be kept on each person, with mobiles and car keys never placed in back pockets where they can easily stolen or fall out.

Nothing should be left on view in cars along with valuables in tents.

Lockers are available in the site's welfare tent and medical attention officers will also carry out breath and drug testing as vehicles leave the park.

The stately home's grounds will host performances from global music stars including headliners Justin Bieber and Rihanna.
