Around 2,000 people turned out to celebrate the event on Sunday in Brunswick Park, which is organised by Wednesbury Rotary Club.

Dance groups, gymnastics, martial art and rugby displays were performing with various stalls set out fundraising for different causes.

Rotary president, Steve Dale, said: "We all headed down at 8am to set up and the weather was quite bad, however a few hours later the sun was shining and everything was coming together. It was a tremendous success," he said.

"Karl Hinett, who is a ex-Iraq veteran opened the carnival for us and did a super job of speaking to everyone and getting involved. It was an honour to have him there."

Karl, from Tipton, was badly burned after an armoured vehicle he was in was bombed in Iraq in 2005 while he was serving in the Army.

A dance group routine keeps the crowd entertained

Acts including the Junction 9 Dancers, Elite – Cheerleaders and Rick's Martial Arts took to the stage to showcase pieces especially for the day.

A yellow-themed stall in aid of four-year-old Sam Fellows, who has Deplegic Cerebral Palsy, was also on display.

Mr Dale continued: "The people on individual stalls were happy with what they achieved for their own causes too."
