Sheila McMahon will be undertaking a tandem hang-glide to raise money for a mental health project – dressed as her comedy character nun Sister Mary.

She will be accompanied by her brother Geoffrey, who has held the record for the longest hang-gliding flight in Ireland, 80 miles, for the last 10 years.

Sheila, who is a qualified counsellor, will also be performing at Stafford Gatehouse Theatre on June 23. Having suffered from mental health issues herself, she hopes to reduce the social stigma which surrounds the condition – and raise money to fund the production of a series of online mental health shows.

A number of special guests are lined up to appear in a series of shows with Sheila. She will interview experts and invite viewers to submit questions she can put to the show's guests.

Her production 'Sheila's MHS – Mental Health Show' aims to educate in a humorous way. In the shows, she shares coping mechanisms for people to use and tells real life stories.

"Unfortunately mental health is still a taboo subject," Sheila said. "Talking about issues and sharing stories of how people helped themselves and others can help break the feeling of isolation."
