Animal show at Rodbaston campus raises cash for Birmingham Children's Hospital
A horse and dog show set tails wagging as thousands were raised for sick children.
The show, at the Rodbaston Campus of South Staffordshire College, featured perfect pooches and high-class horses strutting their stuff in a series of tricky events to raise cash for Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Now in its fifth year, the show has so far raised more than £27,000 for charities. And when the cash is totted up, it is expected this year has been another record breaker. Events included showjumping, dressage and various other classes for horses, while there was a pedigree and a novelty dog show. Similar to Crufts, dogs were judged on their ability to follow orders and carry out a range of complex tricks.
Competitors came from as far afield as Oxford, with judges from across the UK descending to kindly offer their services free of charge.
The children's hospital is a charity close to the heart of organiser Pat Sharman and her team. She said: "
The majority of the money will be going to them, but there will also be a donation for the Air Ambulance.
"My grandson was cared for by the hospital a few years ago, but our friend who helps us organise the event, her little boy suffers from Joubert's Syndrome.
"She has helped out with the event since it started, so it's cruel irony really that she has a little boy and then he needs care at the hospital.
"The support we've had for the event has been amazing."
