Landmark Cannock pub Tumbledown Farm to become Mediterranean restaurant

Tumbledown Farm, just off the A5, has announced to its customers it will be closing on April 15, with restaurant company Ego set to take over.

In 2012, One Direction band member Liam Payne from Wolverhampton enjoyed a Christmas meal with his family at the pub.

A statement on the Tumbledown Farm Facebook page reads: "We are sorry to have to inform you that this pub will be closing on Friday 15th April.

"We thank you for your custom over the years.

"Tumbledown Farm has been acquired by Ego Restaurants Ltd.

"Ego Medditerranean Restaurant and Bar already has a strong presence in Staffordshire, with venues in Lichfield and Stockton Brook."

All existing staff at Tumbledown Farm will be retained and there will be an additional 40 jobs created as a result of the takeover.

Work on the new Ego Restaurant is set to start on April 18, with the site on Four Crosses Lane expected to open towards the end of May.

Adrian Abbey, chief operating officer for Ego Restaurants, said: "Tumbledown Farm will be managed by general manager Steve Jones who has been running our Lichfield restaurant for the last two-and-a-half years.

"We begin fitting out the pub on Monday, April 18 and plan to open in late May following the £0.5m refurbishment. The objective is to ensure that Tumbledown Farm feels warmer, cosier and lighter with the use of natural woods, lighter materials and hand selected lighting. We are using a very experienced architectural designer on the project and can't wait to see the finished result.

"Rarely do we find the opportunity to acquire such a fantastic building in such a beautiful area, with good access and visibility. In addition, there is a vast car park that will be more than adequate for our 186 restaurant covers, bar area and outdoor terrace."

Ego now has 11 restaurants in the north and Midlands.
