Two old friends are set to push themselves to the limit for charity in a challenge that might get messy.

Jodie Evans and Natasha Walker from Cannock are in training to take part in the annual Tough Mudder Midlands event at Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire on May 14.

The pair decided to take part in the five mile half marathon obstacle course challenge after pledging that they would 'do something extreme' in 2016.

When the decision was made, the pair then chose mental health charity MIND as the benefactors of their efforts.

Natasha, aged 23, said: "Me and Jodie have been friends since secondary school. We went to university together and we have done a lot together over that time. However, we haven't taken on a challenge like this before. It came out of nowhere really, we just decided that this year we wanted to try something different.

MIND is very close to my heart so I am pleased that Jodie agreed to give any money we raise to them."

The 16,000-acre setting of Belvoir castle promises more dark woodlands, large pools and more mud for contestants to tackle than ever before.

The first Tough Mudder challenge was held in the United States in 2010 and to date, more than two million people worldwide have participated in Tough Mudder events.

Jodie and Natasha have so far raised £192 of a £300 target on Just Giving and have organised a charity concert to be held this Friday at Bridgtown Social Club, Walsall Road, featuring local band The Undercovers. Natasha said: "We want to raise as much money as we can this year so with the concert and Tough Mudder we should be able to make a strong donation. Friday will be a great night."
