Four candles at ready for Ronnie Corbett

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Ronnie Corbett, one of the last of the old stalwarts of British comedy.

The diminutive funnyman was a staple of our television screens for half a century, and was best known for his stint on The Two Ronnies with his close pal Ronnie Barker.

His death at the age of 85 comes less than two weeks after the passing of another of our great entertainers, Paul Daniels.

It all brings back memories of the days when there were only three channels on our television sets and families would huddle around the box tuned in to the classic shows of the time.

As far as comedy was concerned it didn't get much better than The Two Ronnies, with Corbett gaining notoriety for his long-winded monologues that always seemed to be heading nowhere before ending in uproarious laughter.

A true standard-bearer for British comedy, his work transcended generations, with re-runs of his hit sitcom Sorry! still regularly gracing our televisions almost 30 years after it ceased production.

Always self-depreciating, Corbett's legacy will include some of the greatest comedy sketches ever produced.

We'll be sure to light four candles in his honour.
