Brierley Hill club night shows a lot of flare
People can dust off their dancing shoes with plans revealed to create a new club night to boost the Black Country's music scene.
Brierley Hill Civic Hall will host a monthly big night out in a bid to bring crowds flocking to the venue which has undergone a revamp.
Dudley Council transferred the day-to-day management of the hall, which attracts thousands of people every year, to the Dudley Council for Voluntary Service last year.
And now the group want to bolster the number of events held - with nostalgic music nights among those to be staged.
The hall, in Bank Street, will hold the monthly events each Friday starting from April 1 costing £5 on the door.
Organisers say the Big Cheesey Nights Out will get the iconic building rocking to the sounds of the 70s, 80s and 90s and some more recent chart hits.
The bar has recently been refurbished following the voluntary group's takeover of the hall in the town centre.
Dudley CVS chief officer, Andy Gray, said. "The revenue from commercial events at Brierley Hill Civic Hall is being re-invested into the voluntary sector.
"This enables us to offer the Civic Hall as a community building for community users. Our aim is to see Brierley Hill Civic Hall as a vibrant and accessible venue for all sorts of community activities, subsidised by income from commercial events."
CVS officer Brendan McKeown added: "We are really looking forward to it. It is great to have a cheesy night out and we want to bring them back to the area.
"We have lined up some good DJs who know their stuff and it should make for a good night."
Other nights planned boxing and wrestling nights have been drawing in the crowds alongside stand up comedy shows.
For brides-to-be there is a Wedding Fair on Sunday, April 10.
Officials say Brierley Hill Civic Hall has been 'largely under-used' and has 'struggled to be financially viable' over the years.
But Dudley CVS say bookings have risen significantly with only ten free Friday and Saturday evenings left in 2016.
