The baker was in Quinton for two special interactive baking sessions.

The mother-of-two helped around 20 children cook spiced cookies and bread during the event at the church hall at Christ Church on Saturday.

She said: "I have kids myself and we love baking, they always get involved at home, so I'm used to working with kids and I thought it would be nice to show the basics about simple baking, how you can help mum in the kitchen at Christmas."

The baker revealed she loved her time on the show but was disappointed to have been booted off in week five.

She said: "It was a shame that I left at the time because I'm very competitive and for me to leave at week five when I was feeling so strong it was devastating, but the whole experience was really good. It gave me a good platform.

"It definitely opened the doors for me and gave me opportunities which I wouldn't have if I was just an ordinary person approaching people."

Ugne is now writing a new book which will feature free-from recipes and 'fitness bakes' - a healthier version of baking, which is due out next autumn.

Linda Paiva from Rokiel Entertainment which put on the event added: "The whole idea is to provide affordable, quality entertainment for children.

"There's a dearth of baking sessions in Birmingham, what the people like is that it is affordable and they get to see someone from the television do something with their children and get to participate with their children."
