Wolverhampton manor gets festive

Santa's elves have been hard at work to bring festive wonderment and Christmas cheer to visitors to Wightwick Manor.

National Trust volunteers have been decorating the manor house at Wightwick Bank, Wolverhampton, getting it ready to welcome visitors over the holiday period.

The spectacular Victorian house, which was accepted by the trust in 1937, has been adorned with an array of lights and decorations as well as produce from the manor gardens.

It opened for Christmas visitors on Wednesday, and people will be able to go and see the manor up until December 28 apart from on Tuesdays and Christmas Day, when it is closed.

On the weekends of December 12 to 13 and 19 to 20 the manor will be hosting Father Christmas in his sitting room between 11am and 4pm. Tickets are available in the visitor reception on a first come basis, no pre-booking.

Tickets for children are £6.50, admission prices to accompanying adults.

And there are free craft activities where people can have a go at making William Morris Christmas tree decorations.

A range of William Morris-inspired products will be available to purchase in the Old Manor shop, including a Rossetti notebook and a Strawberry Thief handbag. It will be open up to 4pm on Christmas Eve.

The manor's popular carol concerts on December 7, 8, 14 and 15 have already sold out. When asked if staff are getting into the Christmas spirit, visitor centre reception assistant Dorothy Bennett said: "Absolutely. The house has been decorated by the volunteers and they have made it look beautiful using produce from the garden.

"We have had good reports that people have enjoyed seeing the house decked out for Christmas in the past, so hopefully it will be the same this year.

"There are some carol concerts, but they have all sold out.

"But Santa will be paying a visit here for the last two weekends before Christmas.

"We have craft activities for the children to enjoy on those two weekends as well."

"People should come along to get themselves into the festive spirit and in the right mood for Christmas."
