Brewing up nicely for Black Country Festival celebrations in Dudley
A host of events – including a beer festival – are taking place this weekend across the Dudley area to mark Black Country Day next week.
The Duke William pub, in Coventry Street, Stourbridge, is one of many pubs in the area serving up a selection of ales from 11am today.
Dozens of events are taking place this weekend in the run up to Black Country Day on Tuesday. Thousands of people are expected to gather for the main festival taking place in Stone Street Square, Dudley today. It marks the centre piece of the Black Country Festival held to bring together cultural, music and community events being held marking Black Country Day. Live music was being staged alongside stalls and traditional activities during the course of the day.
Black Country Beer Day has been organised by the Dudley, South Staffordshire, Stourbridge and Halesowen branches of CAMRA. Pubs across Sedgley, Gornal, Lye and Netherton are taking part. Punters are planning to meet at the Sadler's Brewhouse and Bar in Lye this morning and they will be travelling on public transport around the seven other pubs during the course of the day. Dudley CAMRA spokesman Stan Stephens said: "It is good to be part of the festival this year. We have been taking in as many of the breweries as we can. It is good to see everyone coming together for the festival."
Other events taking place this weekend linked to Black Country Day include the two-day Wolverhampton City Show and the Women's Chainmakers Festival in Cradley Heath tomorrow.
Black Country Festival Community Group chairman, Steve Edwards, said: "We are so pleased to have the backing of the four Black Country borough councils and the support of the Black Country community."
"If the community gets the backing and support from the councils and the business sector then I believe everyone wins."
