Two's a crowd as pair queue for V Festival tickets at Wolverhampton Civic

Armed with blankets, camping chairs and flasks of tea, Victoria Whitehorn and Ellie Burns thought they were in for a long night of queuing for V Festival tickets.

And who can blame them? In the past, hundreds of people have queued throughout Wolverhampton city centre to get their hands on tickets.

But this time only a handful of people turned out at the Civic Hall - with most deciding to get their passes online from the comfort of home.

Tickets for the three-day event went on sale at 9am yesterday, with thousands snapped up in just a few hours.

This year's line-up features Kasabian, who headlined last year's Glastonbury Festival, and Calvin Harris, whose latest album Motion spawned three number one singles.

Victoria and Ellie, aged 19 from Wednesfield, set up camp at 5am and were first to get tickets. They said, despite the early morning wake-up call, they were happy with the result.

And then there were five - Ellie Burns, Victoria Whitehorn, Laura O'Grady, Liv Veiro and Sue Bevan were the only people in the queue minutes before tickets went on sale.

Ellie said: "This will be my second time going to V and I can't wait. It feels great to have the tickets but its still so far away. I am particularly excited to see Sam Smith and Calvin Harris this year, I think they will be the ones to watch."

Victoria added: "I have never been to a festival before so I had to make sure I got my ticket. You hear all sorts of things about how many people will be here so we brought our deck chairs and got comfortable."

The festival, which is held simultaneously at Weston Park in Staffordshire and Hylands Park in Chelmsford on the weekend of August 22 and 23, will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
