My perfect weekend: Oliver Mellor
Actor Oliver Mellor tells us where he would head to have the perfect weekend

It's Friday afternoon, what's on your mind?
Normally, I'll be thinking about catching up with a few friends and drinking (a lot) but, given that I'm on tour for the next three months and I can't work on a hangover, I'm probably more likely to be found having a civilized dinner with a just a few drinks, being a good boy and going to bed early!
Who normally has the pleasure of your company at the weekends?
At the moment, it's my fellow 'A Murder Has Been Arranged' cast members – we spend so much time together on tour, they're like my new family. When you're on tour, you end up visiting so many cities that you've never been to before – and it's always a great chance to meet new people/members of the opposite sex! Either that or I'll be visiting family.
How do you prepare for a big night out?
Normally, I'll be hitting the gym. I might go for a swim or a steam … maybe make myself a fruit juice. I have a juicer at home so I'm always making juices from some ingredient or another … It's all about the 'detox' before you re-tox on a night out.
What's your favourite party outfit?
A smile…! No, only joking. It's usually jeans, a T-shirt and a pair of boots for me – nothing too smart. If you're anticipating a big night out, you need something 'disposable', you know, something you wouldn't mind getting stained with alcohol and ripped.
You've just arrived at the bar, what's your first drink?
I always start with something cool and refreshing. I love a lager so a nice pint of draft Peroni always hits the spot.
What is your favourite night spot and why?
Canal Street in Manchester. I love the bar strip there or 'The Village' as its known – you meet such a diversity of people and you can always guarantee there'll be somewhere to drink any time of the day or night.
It's a sunny Saturday, what are you up to?
If I'm not sweating away in a hot theatre, then I'll almost certainly be lying outside in the sun, trying to find a beach or outdoor pool where I can chill out with my friends.
What's your most memorable weekend ever and why?
There have been many but I'd say it has to be when I went camping in the Australian outback with three mates. We were smack bang in the middle of nowhere camping beneath the stars, surrounded by snakes, koalas and kangaroos. Not only that but our pitch was right next to the beach so we had the chance to swim with turtles and sharks by sunset! Incredible!
What's your recipe for the perfect night in?
Takeaway fish and chips, a bottle of champagne and good conversation with a loved one/lover.
Favourite DVD and what would you eat while watching it?
Anything with the shock factor – I love a good Tarantino! Pulp Fiction maybe? And as for what to eat, it's got to be seafood. Mussels, prawns, monkfish…the full works!
Sunday breakfast: cooked or continental?
Cooked but it has to be done just right! The bacon has to be crispy, eggs poached with a really runny yoke, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes … and the best quality black pudding you can buy.
Sunday lunch: home cooked or down the pub?
I rarely cook at home so it would have to be down the pub. Unless I'm visiting my mum down in Dorset who – by the way – makes THE best Sunday lunch in the world. No really – she does!
You have the whole weekend off and a wad of cash. Which country or city would you head to?
Right now – I think it would have to be Ibiza for a crazy weekend of partying. I'd definitely only need a weekend to spend all my cash, that's for certain and I'm not sure my body could handle more than a weekend anyway!!
Oliver Mellor will be appearing in A Murder Had Been Arranged from Tuesday to July 20 at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.
