Lucy Porter: Not short of big gags
Vertically-challenged British comedian Lucy Porter will bring her new show to the MET Studio, at Stafford's Gatehouse Theatre, tomorrow.
The actress and comedian, who describes herself as being short at 4ft 11in, has written a new production that is based around a fascinating true story – with a stunning twist in the tale.
Along the way, the 30-something mum of 'Irish twins' – not Jedward thankfully – will bring us her hilarious stand up observations. Lucy promises to tackle the big subjects including happiness, home shopping, friendship and the psychological impact of daytime TV's Dom Littlewood. Fans can expect a feel-good night of comedy that will appeal to audiences of all ages.
The performer famously starred on The Rob Brydon Show and has also appeared on a number of other TV programmes, including The One Show.
Her show has been described as 'Clever, chatty and charming' by Three Weeks while The Herald described it as 'Fizzing with inventive one...a treat from start to finish'.
The Glee Club, in Birmingham, will welcome a string of top-flight comics with an eclectic bill in store.
It will welcome Sean Meo on Thursday for the first of three nights at the venue.
Meo has been a stand-up comic since 1989. Prior to that, he had been a full time snooker player and was a quarter finalist in the English Amateur Championships of 1987. He has risen to the very top of the UK comedy scene and regularly headlines at all the top comedy clubs.
In 1998 he won Time Out Comic Of The Year and has appeared at the Kilkenny, Cork, Edinburgh and Montreal Comedy Festivals.
He has won rave reviews from a number of critics and Time Out said: "He can turn out intelligent and exciting new material with a speed that many other comics can only gasp at." The Evening Standard described him as being 'surreal, sexy... and very, very funny' while The Guardian Guide called him 'deliciously sardonic'.
Gary Delaney will headline the Glee tonight and tomorrow, in a line-up that also features Matt Reed, Dan Nightingale and Ed Gamble.
Delaney is a razor sharp one-liner comedian, who is widely regarded as being the most quotable comic on the circuit. The high quantity of stand-out gags that he delivers leaves audiences struggling to remember them all.
He regularly plays the UK's biggest clubs including The Comedy Store, Komedia, Glee, Rawhide, The Frog and Bucket, Hyena, Baby Blue, The Stand, Comedy Café, Lee Hurst's Backyard, Banana Cabaret and headlines at clubs throughout the UK.
The performer has appeared on Dave's One Night Stand, Comedy Central's Comedy Blue and Channel 4's Robert's Web, as well as Radio 4's Loose Ends and Radio 2's Russell Kane's Whistle-Stop Tour. His Twitter feed was also nominated for a Chortle Award in 2011.
