Lee Nelson hits a Wolverhampton hat-trick

Simon Brodkin's crazed alter ego multiplied into several guises and morphed into a Nutty Professor type scene at the Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton.

'Lee Nelson & Friends' was exactly what it said on the tin and we didn't see the former until the second half of the show.

His 'Well Good Show' on BBC3 that paved the way for a popular nationwide tour was replaced by a brand-new 'Well Funny People,' that started in March.

New incarnations filled out the first half of Friday night's bill with hilarious holiday rep Gary Sedgemore and a purported man of the cloth, who was only too keen to interact with the crowd.

One poor soul was dragged onto the stage from the audience and his holiness tried to exercise a demon in a bloke from Wednesfield, as you do.

In between them came the millionaire playboy footballer that is Jason Bent, clad in a Manchester City shirt, that milked his bust-up with the fallen moneybags Premier League champions.

"John Terry – racism, four game ban" Bent began. "Luis Suarez – biting, eight match ban.' He continued. "Jason Bent – warming up with Manchester City, one year ban!"

Brodkin, in full Bent persona, had memorably trooped out onto the Goodison Park and joined City warming up there ahead of kick off before a league game in March. Oh how we laughed.

After the interval, the man himself in Lee Nelson in appeared with brand new material than we had heard in the two years he had previously visited the city.

It wasn't any more subtle, mind you, as touchy issues the world over were treated with the subtlety of a sledgehammer.

In the end, two couples of long-standing were summoned from the crowd to partake in 'Lee Nelson's Happy Couples.'

The tone plummeted further downwards from there. A good night, once again, had by all.
