They've been friends since they were four years-old and now more than a decade later together they are carving a musical history for themselves. Stourbridge's One Sixth of Tommy are certainly making waves on the music scene.
Jordan Martin, Joanna Grennan and Jorja Bates are on the way up and last summer they found themselves performing on the reputable stages of Glastonbury Festival's The Croissant Neuf and Bandstand. They have now been selected to play at the HMV Next Big Thing event in London in February.
Their first single The Pact, which was released in the summer, has been played on Radio Two where Terry Wogan described it as 'charming'. They describe their songs as 'melodic, graceful and uplifting with a nod to acoustic traditions yet not without a healthy dose of experimentation'.
Their genre is that of acoustic/folk/pop music 'with catchy hooks and honest lyrics'.
The girls first decided to become a band after taking part in a workshop in Stourbridge in 2007. It was a day that changed their lives because ever since they have been writing, playing live and logging hours in rehearsal rooms.
Jordan, who is 20, said: "We started performing as a band around the end of 2007 after we won our high school's battle of the bands competition."
Joanna, aged 19, said: "Before the band I had never really had much experience in performing and so when I joined I was very apprehensive about singing in front of people. But when we played our first gig I really loved being on stage."
The group have now been gigging across the country and also in venues closer to home including The Yardbird in Birmingham and Katie Fitzgeralds in Stourbridge.
Jordan said: "I love performing at festivals. We played Glastonbury this year and it was such an amazing feeling. Nothing can beat a good festival."
Last summer the girls released their first album called You're In My Head. One Sixth of Tommy are urging people to buy their album which is available on iTunes or Amazon, from the Helium Records website and in record shops. To hear the band visit http://onesixthoftommy.com
