Any man who can describe himself as "an aborted Mr Tickle" is always going to get my vote. And that's exactly how stand-up comic Greg Davies introduced himself.

He also referred to his toddler self as "half child, half mutant octopus" and a number of other things that shouldn't be mentioned in a family newspaper.

Best known for his role in The Inbetweeners, the Shropshire comic was hilarious from start to finish during a nearly two-hour show.

The premise of his current tour – called Firing Cheeseballs At A Dog – is actually quite sweet. While the title originates from an actual afternoon spent firing crisps at a Spanish dog, it does in fact represent the times in your life when you genuinely forget yourself because you're laughing so hard.

The former teacher draws heavily on his experiences in the classroom as well as his colourful family.

Highlights for me included a story about how he once locked a child in a cupboard and a somewhat unexplained re-telling of the time his mother accidentally drank petrol.

Standing at 6ft 8in and wearing a slightly ill-fitting T-shirt, he cut a striking figure on the Glee Club stage and exuded likeability.
