Surprisingly, it took 14 years until the stage adaptation of Footloose The Dance Musical burst onto Broadway following the hit 1984 film starring Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer.
And if the reaction from last night's audience at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre was anything to go by, that was way too long.
Karen Bruce's direction and choreography is outstanding with high-energy dance routines that just beg you to stand up and join in, sensationally capturing the rebellious feel of the youngsters from a one-horse town who are forbidden to sing or dance.
Adam C Booth as Ren McCormack has great charisma but the star of the evening was Giovanni Spano as Willard Hewitt, who showed comedic timing and astonishing dance technique while charming the ladies.
Unmissable, runs until Saturday.
