Snoop Dogg, HMV-Institute, Birmingham

US rapper Snoop Dogg took to the stage in Birmingham for a rare performance in the city — and he certainly took his time getting there.

Warming up the crowd at the HMV Institute in Digbeth last night, which he had failed to sell-out, was London-born and Irish-raised singer songwriter Maverick Sabre who has already supported the likes of Cee-Lo Green and Plan B.

He went down well, but then the crowd had to wait almost an 90 minutes for the main act.

Boos rang out and the crowd became restless, but all seemed to be forgiven as soon as Snoop took to the stage.

Complete with dancers and DJs, Snoop, real name Calvin Broadus, brandishing a diamond encrusted microphone, performed hits from his back catalogue such as Who Am I (What's My Name?), Gin and Juice and Drop it like it's Hot.

And despite not selling out the venue he did not disappoint the loyal fans that had turned out.
