X Factor heart-throb Liam Payne today told how he was recovering well from the ankle injury that threatened to stop him performing in tonight's Halloween-themed show.

The Wolverhampton teenager tripped over a guitar pedal during a night out to see rapper Tinie Tempah in Camden on Wednesday.

Liam, who was with his One Direction bandmates and fellow contestant Cher, told the Express & Star: "It's getting a little bit better. I'm sure it will be alright for the show, although it's a good job we don't have any major choreography.

"I just went home and put ice on it and strapped it up. It is not like a major injury but it does hurt." The 17-year-old from Bushbury, a former St Peter's Collegiate School pupil, is sworn to secrecy about the band's song for tonight but said: "We're really happy with it and we're going to put our own stamp on it.

"The song is really iconic and I am sure every single person around the country will know the words. We just want everyone singing along in front of the telly. That would be amazing."

He added he was missing his family, his own bed and basketball with his friends at Northwood Park but was enjoying his new-found fame. He said: "The hysteria is huge. I mean, Cheryl Cole compared it to that of The Beatles - which is just like the most amazing comment in the world."

Meanwhile, Treyc Cohen told how she is mystified by judge Simon Cowell's concern about her style.

The 27-year-old University of Wolverhampton music student, of Tamworth, was shocked to end up in the bottom two last week. Despite nursing a sore throat, she survived a sing-off with John Adeleye.

She said: "I am feeling really well this week. It is not perfect but it is miles better. I am staying positive. And I am still here to win this competition."
